I bought this as a gift for my 10-year-old daughter after she saw an ad and wanted it—and she absolutely loved it! The rules are simple compared to many other games we own, and setup is easy and straightforward. Turns go quickly enough to keep everyone engaged, and the game can be as simple or as complex as you want, depending on who's playing and how competitive you make it. Our first playthrough took about 45 minutes including learning the rules, but now that we know how it works, it would probably only take 30 minutes next time. It's colorful, creative, and a great way to get everyone involved. Highly recommend for families looking for a fun, vibrant, and interactive game.
Great, fast game for big groups. Fun icebreaker. Not too serious and very little chance of anger for those sore losers.
Everything arrived in perfect condition. The game is very fun and entertaining, easy to learn and great to play with friends or family. We've had a great time with it and would definitely recommend it.
I loooooove this game!!! It is wonderful to play in big group!! My family tends to rip on the people who describe the color badly and it becomes a part two to the game. The most creative roast. Hehe
Our family loves this game! So fun also great because everyone can easily play no matter how young or old as long as they know colors. Sometimes it can be difficult to think of a clue when describing the color but that is part of the fun. The only other thing we have observed is that the color on the card is slightly different than what is on the board. Possibly because of the black lines around the colors on the board.
It's a really fun to play game, it works in every group. From family to friends to workmates. My kid finds it funny and my grandpa finds a challenge in playing it, but he really enjoys it too. If you get some sleeves for the cards, it will stand heavy use. It's really easy to start and end a game, the rules are very clear, easy and fast to understand for every age group.
About Hues and Cues
Hues and Cues was created around a simple but surprisingly revealing idea: everyone imagines color differently. Inspired by everyday moments where a single word can trigger completely different shades in different minds, the game was designed to turn that ambiguity into play. From the start, the focus was on communication rather than trivia or technical knowledge - how people describe color using shared experiences, moods, objects, and cultural references.
The result is a vibrant, accessible board game built around a large spectrum of 480 color squares and a strict creative constraint: clues must be just one or two words. This limitation pushes players to think carefully, listen closely, and interpret how others see the world. Each round becomes a small social experiment, where "apple", "coffee", or "sky" can lead to lively debate, laughter, and unexpected connections across the table.
Since its release, Hues and Cues has been recognized for its originality and broad appeal, earning recommendations and nominations from major tabletop awards including 2021 American Tabletop Early Gamers Recommended and 2020 Golden Geek nominations for Light Game of the Year and Best Zoomable Game.
Designed for 3-10 players aged 8 and up, with games lasting around 30 minutes, Hues and Cues suits families, friends, classrooms, and casual gatherings alike. The game reflects a belief that great play does not need complexity - just a clever idea, clear rules, and space for human interpretation. Today, Hues and Cues continues to bring people together through color, conversation, and the simple joy of seeing familiar words in a new light.
